Abstract

Scenography is the core of every exhibition. However, the acoustic part of this is often limited to audio guides and podcasts with explanatory interviews and explanations of the exhibits. For some time now, however, not only sound artistic but also sound design practices have been developed for the exhibition space: Initially under experimental laboratory conditions, later as artistic projects, and finally as applied forms of staging in the museum.

This talk focuses on two exhibitions to present the possibilities and limitations, but above all the increasingly established forms of acoustic scenography for the museum’s work. At the end stands a proposal for an understanding of acoustic scenography and an invitation to include this highly effective form of representation in the canon of current exhibition techniques.
