David Rothenberg’s Insect Based Music

While working on the outline of the several performances, presentations, lectures and installations at Unmenschliche Musik/Inhuman Music on February 21st to 24th, 2013 at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin we, Detlef Diederichsen and I, dived deeply into the sonic explorations of animals as executed by David Rothenberg. Please, do yourself a favor and listen to his great pieces and adventures into the sound of insects as in the following two pieces:

Personally speaking, I find it fascinating how these two pieces take up the harsh and site-specific electronic aesthetics of, for instance, Maryanne Amacher or even Iannis Xenakis; and how this gets combined with a kind of third stream-aesthetics.
